Tory Horton Is Coming For Marquez Valdes-Scantling's Job

Seahawks WR Tory Horton has been a buzzy player in training camp. ESPN's Brady Henderson added to that buzz on Wednesday, suggesting that Horton is pushing WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.

        What They're Saying

Henderson: "Valdes-Scantling will need to start showing that he can still stretch the defense if he wants to hold off Tory Horton in Seattle's receiver corps -- and perhaps to secure a spot on the roster. Because for the first two weeks of camp, the rookie fifth-round pick has been consistently making plays while the veteran has barely made any."

HC Mike Macdonald on Valdes-Scantling: "He knows he's in a battle. I think he respects Tory and what he's doing, and he's got a great attitude. He's had a tremendous attitude. He's a competitor at heart. He's had a great career, but there's also a lot of great competition, too."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

It's early August, so it's too early to call this battle. But it's notable when a Day 3 rookie is already stealing snaps from a veteran.

Of course, Valdes-Scantling isn't very tough competition. The seven-year pro has never reached 700 receiving yards in a season, despite playing with QBs Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

If Horton continues on the path he's on, there's no reason he can't win the No. 3 WR job by opening day. That's not enough to make him an option in lineup-setting drafts. But he's a viable last-round flier in best ball. Horton has big-play upside with his 4.4 speed.
