QB Spencer Rattler was benched Rookie QB Tyler Shough in the third quarter after two turnovers. Rattler had turned the ball over six times in seven quarters and finally was sent to the sideline. Unfortunately, Shough did not fair much better, throwing an interception himself. This likely sets up Shough to be the starter for the rest of the season so the Saints can see what they have in the rookie.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Rattler went 15 of 21 for 136 yards and an interception. He also lost a fumble in the game. Shough’s statistics were even worse, trying to play catch-up up going 17 of 30 for 128 yards and an interception.
Shough had a messy college career playing for Oregon and Texas Tech before going to Louisville. Then, as a 25-year old college QB, he put together an exceptional final season that included 3,195 passing yards and 23 TDs. That got him second round draft capital being taken 40th overall by the Saints.
The first regular season look at Shough wasn’t promising, but he should start the rest of the way.
The bad news for Shough? The Saints have the second hardest QB schedule for the rest of the fantasy season.
Shough won’t be usable moving forward, due to the challenging schedule. He is only worth a stash in Superflex leagues in case he surprises and turns things around.
Don’t expect the other Saints’ weapons like Chris Olave, Alvin Kamara, and Rashid Shaheed to benefit from Shough at QB.
