The Cardinals are signing QB Gardner Minshew to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero says it's a $5.75 million pact that could be worth as much as $8 million.
What They're Saying
John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Phoenix: "The Arizona Cardinals signed veteran QB Gardner Minshew to a one-year deal to be the backup to Jacoby Brissett. Brissett will be the Cardinals starting QB for the 2026 season."
Pelissero: "The Cardinals depth cart entering the offseason:
QB1 Jacoby Brissett
QB2 Gardner Minshew"
Johnny Venerable of PHNX: "Monti Ossenfort quarterback moves since becoming GM in 2023:
- Drafting Clayton Tune in the 5th Round
- Temporarily committing to Colt McCoy
- Trading for Joshua Dobbs
- Trading for Desmond Ridder
- Signing Jacoby Brissett
- Cutting Kyler Murray
- Signing Gardner Minshew"
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
That X post from "Gambo" is being treated like a report, even though he's merely an afternoon sports-talk host and gave no indication it came from a Cardinals source.
Perhaps I'm guilty of amplifying one guy's assumption here as well, but it's an item worth knowing about if you're jumping into early drafts.
Could this prove true? Sure. Brissett played well enough for last year's Cards to earn some more time as a "bridge" QB. And his 65 career starts are 59 more than Malik Willis brings to Miami.
But assuming the Arizona QB plan for 2026 is now set looks like a mistake, at least until someone from the organization publicly echoes that.
If you're drafting now, feel free to take Brissett as a later QB3 in superflex drafts. Otherwise, we'll see how this situation develops.
There have been rumors of the team pursuing Jimmy Garoppolo, who worked with new HC Mike LaFleur as a Ram the past two years.
