Dolphins RB Ollie Gordon played 25% of the team's offensive snaps in Thursday night's loss to the Bills, finishing with nine carries for 38 yards and a score. That usage was way up from the first two weeks of the season, when Gordon registered an 18% snap rate and five total touches.
We're chalking up Gordon's increased role at least in part to the short week. The Dolphins likely did not want to overload RB De'Von Achane after he handled 19 touches on 53 snaps just four days earlier. Achane was still clearly ahead of Gordon vs. Buffalo, tallying 12 carries and nine targets on a 77% snap rate.
Gordon's goal-line role might be legit, though. He got all three of Miami's short-yardage snaps vs. Buffalo and two of the three goal-line snaps. Gordon punched in a two-yard TD on Miami's first possession.
Achane handled most of that work over the first two weeks, so this will be a situation to watch closely going forward. Goal-line duties wouldn't be enough to make Gordon a reliable fantasy play, but it'd certainly lower Achane's ceiling.
It's also worth noting that RB Jaylen Wright did not play a single snap vs. Buffalo, despite being active for the first time this season. Gordon remains the clear handcuff to Achane for now.
