Commanders WR Deebo Samuel managed just 4 receptions for 15 yards in Monday night's loss to the Bears. That's not a surprising development after he managed just one limited practice on an injured heel and entered the game questionable. But it's worth noting that he played near his normal amount. The 72.3% snap share marked his second-lowest of the season but one of three games he's had in the 70s. Samuel's five targets tied for second on the team, trailing only TE Zach Ertz. Chris Moore (3-46-1 receiving) and Luke McCaffrey (1-33-1) joined Ertz in snagging TDs from Jayden Daniels.
It's easy to say in hindsight that it would have made sense to lower our Week 6 expectations for Samuel. And we certainly look at a player's practice participation and game outlook in assessing his weekly projections and ranking.
But Samuel ran a route on a team-high 86% of Daniels' dropbacks. He'll belong in starter territory for most fantasy leagues whenever that's the case.
We'll see about Samuel's practice participation ahead of an upside Week 7 matchup with the Cowboys. We'll also see who joins him in the lineup.
Week 6 began with optimism for Terry McLaurin's chances of playing. And WR Noah Brown managed two limited practices before sitting out Saturday and getting ruled out for the game.
Moore joined Samuel as the only Washington WRs to run a route on more than half of Daniels' dropbacks vs. Chicago, which keeps McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane from being real fantasy options in the absence of WR teammates -- despite splash plays for both young receivers.
