Colts RB Jonathan Taylor ran for 94 yards and 3 TDs on 16 carries in Sunday's win over the Chargers. That marked his third 3-TD game of the season, among seven outings. He added 3 catches for 38 yards on three targets.
Taylor's already up to 10 rushing scores for the season. That's just one short of his season total for last year, across 14 games. Taylor has also accounted for 11 of Indy's 26 total offensive TDs so far.
Taylor's 7.5% rushing-TD rate leaves room for regression, but it's not nearly enough to say he's an overrated fantasy producer right now.
Taylor entered Sunday leading the league in carries, rushing yards, and rushing TDs. He also led the league in all three categories last time he stayed healthy.
That came in 2021, when Taylor played in all 17 games and led all RBs in fantasy scoring. The three years between that campaign and this one all found him missing 3+ contests.
As long as Taylor stays healthy this season, he should remain a driver of fantasy success.
The RB2 might be changing for the Colts. That's been rookie DJ Giddens to this point, but veteran Ameer Abdullah played five snaps to three.
More importantly, he garnered the only two RB carries and the only RB target that didn't go to Taylor.
Abdullah joined the team's practice squad at the start of the season, but he has just joined the active roster the past two weeks. It looks like Indy would at least split work in the case of a Taylor injury, with a chance that Abdullah outright leads that scenario.
