The Vikings have placed QB J.J. McCarthy in the concussion protocol, per HC Kevin O’Connell. As of now, O'Connell says “it’s too early to tell” who’ll be under center for the Vikings in Week 13.
What They're Saying
Here’s more from beat writer Ben Goessling of The Star Tribune on X:
Max Brosmer will take first-team reps at quarterback for the #Vikings with J.J. McCarthy in the concussion protocol, Kevin O’Connell said. They’ll make a decision on the starting quarterback for Seattle once they see how McCarthy comes through the protocol. It’ll be a medical decision first with McCarthy, O’Connell said.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
McCarthy posted ugly numbers against the Packers, throwing for only 87 yards on 19 attempts. He added two picks.
Per Next Gen Stats, McCarthy recorded a historically bad -0.75 EPA per dropback. He also faced pressure on 48% of his dropbacks.
Bottom line: Even if he’s healthy, the second-year QB should remain far from fantasy lineups, especially for a Week 13 trip to Seattle. That extends to potential fill-in QB Max Brosmer, a rookie UDFA who’s tossed eight passes in mop-up duty.
For now, we're projecting Brosmer as the starter in our Week 13 QB rankings.
