        Omarion Hampton Sluggish In Debut

        Omarion Hampton Sluggish In Debut

Chargers RB Omarion Hampton rushed 15 times for 48 yards (3.2 YPC) in Friday night's win over the Chiefs. He added 13 more yards on two receptions. It was a tough test for the rookie against a Kansas City defense that limited RBs to 3.8 yards per carry last year. But we weren't very impressed by Hampton in this one. He showed nice burst and speed when he found a lane. But he didn't elude or avoid many tackles. In fact, NFL Next Gen Stats tracked him for -1.67 rush yards over expected per attempt. For comparison, D'Andre Swift finished dead last in that category last year at -0.69.

Chargers RB Najee Harris (eye) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. It's more confirmation that he's on track to play in Friday night's opener against the Chiefs in Brazil. Harris didn't practice a single time in training camp after his July 4 fireworks accident, so it's tough to imagine that he'll be ready for a significant role on Friday. Harris should not be in fantasy lineups, but his availability makes RB Omarion Hampton a slightly shakier Week 1 start. See where the rookie lands in the Week 1 RB Rankings.

The Athletic's Daniel Popper posted on X that Chargers' RB Najee Harris is "ramping it up" in preparation to play in LA's season opener on Friday in Brazil.
