Hollywood Brown Reminds Us He's Not a No. 1 Receiver

WR Marquise Brown led the Chiefs in receptions for the second straight game Sunday but managed only 5 receptions for 30 yards in the loss to the Eagles. His five targets tied WR Tyquan Thornton and TE Noah Gray for second on the team, one behind TE Travis Kelce. Brown also matched Thornton in total snaps (45) and pass routes (30), each running one more route than third WR JuJu Smith-Schuster.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder in Friday night's loss to the Chargers and is still seeking a second opinion on how to proceed. It's not yet clear how much time Worthy will miss.

The Chiefs entered Friday night's opener against the Chargers without WR Rashee Rice. Then they lost WR Xavier Worthy just three plays in. That left Marquise Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton as the team's top three WRs. Yet TE Travis Kelce managed to draw only four targets on 39 passes from QB Patrick Mahomes -- a 10.3% target share. Kelce salvaged his fantasy outing with a 37-yard TD on a well-designed play that left him wide open down the right sideline. His only other catch of the night went for 10 yards in the first quarter. He could have had another score late in the game, but he appeared to slow up on a crossing route, resulting in Mahomes' pass glancing off Kelce's fingertips.
