        Lavonte David

        TB LB

What's the Lavonte David Retirement Mean for Buccaneers LBs?

What's the Lavonte David Retirement Mean for Buccaneers LBs?

Longtime Buccaneers LB Lavonte David announced his retirement Tuesday. He arrived back in 2012 as a second-round pick, and immediately stepped into a full-time role. David started every game in which he appeared from 2012 through 2025 and missed just 14 total games across his 14-year run. David's retirement marks the biggest change to the Tampa Bay LB corps, arguably since he entered the league. But the team already started addressing the situation before David made it official.

The Panthers have ruled LB Trevin Wallace out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers with a shoulder injury. Wallace followed a full Wednesday practice with limited work Thursday and Friday, giving the appearance of a midweek injury. But HC Dave Canales indicated after Friday's practice that Wallace had aggravated a previous shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Saints.

The Panthers appear likely to get their lead LB back for Sunday's game against the Rams. The team has listed Trevin Wallace as a full practice participant each of the first two days this week after Wallace missed the past two games with a shoulder injury. He'd return to a corps that appears likely to miss Christian Rozeboom (hamstring) and Claudin Cherelus (concussion), neither of whom has practiced this week.

The Panthers on Tuesday released LB Josey Jewell. The 30-year-old is reportedly still dealing with concussion symptoms, stemming from an injury he sustained in December.

The Rams have ruled LB Troy Reeder (hamstring) out for Thursday night's game against the Vikings. That'll leave the defense without its top LB. It's not clear who will take over his spot, next to Christian Rozeboom. Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic said Wednesday that she expects to see both Jake Hummel and Omar Speights "get a shot." Rams DC reportedly said the team is "working through" who'll wear the green helmet dot and relay defensive play calls. Rozeboom looks like the only usable Rams LBs in IDP leagues. DL Braden Fiske (back) is questionable for the game as well. We'll check his status Thursday evening.
