Bottom Line

Polk shared the spotlight in college, playing alongside fellow NFL talents like Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan.

His game isn’t flashy. But Polk brings NFL-caliber hands, strength, and toughness – traits that’ll give him a shot to contribute in fantasy this fall.

New England presents an ideal environment for target earning. Now, it’s a matter of Polk earning a full-time role to help counterbalance an offense with subpar QB play.

What We Learned Last Year

  • Polk transferred from Texas Tech to Washington in 2021.
    • A broken clavicle cost him most of that season.
  • He entered the national radar in 2022 alongside QB Michael Penix Jr.
    • That year, he tallied 41-694-6 in 13 games.
  • Last fall, his game reached another level (69-1,159-9).
    • All three marks ranked second on the team behind top-10 pick Rome Odunze.
    • He benefited from teammate Jalen McMillan missing time.
  • Polk won’t be the best athlete on the field. But his tape shows sticky hands, inside/out versatility, and excellent play strength.

What to Expect in 2024

  • New England traded down to 37th overall, selecting Polk as the WR10.
    • The Pats also used a Round 4 pick on Javon Baker, an explosive WR who broke out in 2023.
  • New England’s WR depth chart remains underwhelming a year after the group totaled only 5 TDs.
    • Kendrick Bourne and Demario Douglas return as short-range targets. Bourne is recovering from an early-season ACL tear.
    • K.J. Bourne joins after a four-year run in Minnesota. His yardage and TDs have dropped steadily since posting 50-655-7 as a rookie.
    • JuJu Smith-Schuster won’t be guaranteed a roster spot after an abysmal ‘23 (29-260-1 in 11 games). Over the offseason, he shared that he’s much healthier than he was last season.
  • The Pats added much-needed QB talent.
    • Jacoby Brissett adds a veteran presence.
    • Drake Maye, the third overall pick, supplies longer-term upside.
    • Those guys will battle to start in training camp, but it’s reasonable for Maye to be developed slowly.
  • Alex Van Pelt arrives as the new play-caller. His units have ranked top 10 in rushes in four of five seasons as OC.

Jacoby Brissett Named the Patriots Starting QB for Week 1

Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett has been the starter for their opening week game against the Bengals. He was in a competition with rookie Drake Maye, who appeared toto be pulling closer to Brissett in the past week. Ultimately HC Jerod Mayo will go with the veteran presence early in the season, but Maye, the third overall pick in this year's draft, will likely become the starter sooner rather than later.

Dynasty Write-up
Polk broke out in his fourth college season, playing alongside top talents like QB Michael Penix Jr. and WR Rome Odunze. Polk’s not a burner but brings desirable size, ball skills, and contested-catch ability for an outside WR. He should land as a Round 2 or early Round 3 pick, even in a stacked WR class. Polk received solid draft capital (37th overall) and will mature alongside top pick Drake Maye. New England's depth chart affords immediate opportunity.
