Ladd McConkey Not Expected To Play Week 5

Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (foot) is not expected to play vs. the Broncos today, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. It's not a surprise after McConkey aggravated his foot injury last Sunday and missed practice all week. With WRs Quentin Johnston (chest) and WR Brenen Thompson (quad) also out, the Chargers are down to WRs Tre Harris, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Derius Davis and Theo Wease. Harris is the only viable fantasy play among the group. TE Oronde Gadsden should play a significant role in the passing game today.

TE Oronde Gadsden II drew a team-high 8 targets in Sunday's loss at Seattle. He turned that into 5 catches (tied for the team lead) and 36 yards (third). Gadsden got relatively involved early, leading the Chargers with 3 first-half targets, all of them before the middle of the second quarter. RB Keaton Mitchell ranked second with 6 targets. WR Tre Harris followed with 5.

Chargers TE Oronde Gadsden drew just 3 targets in Sunday's loss at Buffalo and caught none of them. But it wasn't for lack of availability. Gadsden ranked third on the team in routes, running 28 to 32 for both Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. That edged Tre' Harris (26) and represented 73.9% of QB Justin Herbert's dropbacks. TE Hayden Rucci stayed close to Gadsden in playing time, getting 28 snaps to Gadsden's 39. That gap proved smaller in the first half, when Gadsden played 17 of the Chargers' 34 snaps and Rucci played 13.

Chargers TEs David Njoku and Charlie Kolar will be placed on IR with the injuries they suffered in the Week 2 loss to the Raiders, HC Jim Harbaugh said. Kolar's forearm injury will cost him "about a month," a source tells ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. We're still waiting for details on Njoku's knee injury, but he's also out at least 4 weeks.

Update: Njoku has a fibula injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, but there's still no timeline for his return.

Chargers TE Charlie Kolar left in the second half of Sunday's game vs. the Raiders with a forearm injury and is questionable to return. L.A. lost TE David Njoku to a knee injury earlier in this one, leaving TE Oronde Gadsden atop the depth chart.
