Malik Mustapha Tore ACL in Season Finale

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that 49ers S Malik Mustapha tore his right ACL in the team's season finale. ESPN's Nick Wagoner says, "There is no definitive timeline on Mustapha's return, but -- given how late in the year the injury occurred -- it's unlikely he will be ready at the start of the season." Wagoner added that the injury is "related" to the ACL tear he suffered in January 2022, while at Wake Forest.

The 49ers spent the 11th pick of the NFL Draft on Georgia Edge Mykel Williams. The former five-star recruit arrived with the talent and flashed it in a solid true freshman season. That included 7 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 28 total tackles, which wound up as a career high for his college years. And that's the problem: He never progressed. Williams dealt with an ankle injury that he tweaked multiple times in 2024, which likely limited his production. But it's disappointing that such a heralded recruit -- and a talent that clearly impressed -- leaves Georgia with no truly impressive production. The positive: Williams hasn't even turned 21 yet.

The Broncos landed LB Dre Greenlaw in free agency with a three-year, $31.5 million deal. That positions him as Denver's highest-paid LB and marked a noteworthy investment into a 28-year-old (on May 25) who missed nearly all of last season coming off his Achilles' tear in the Super Bowl. The 49ers reportedly made a late push to retain Greenlaw. Instead, his move shakes up two LB groups.
