Although he was seemingly set to play a bigger role before exiting the Cowboys game, Loveland shouldn't be in your Week 4 fantasy plans even if he ends up playing. But this report makes TE Cole Kmet a less intriguing waiver-wire target as a Week 4 spot starter.

The Bears selected Michigan TE Colston Loveland with the No. 10 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. Loveland didn’t get the same hype as Tyler Warren in the pre-draft process, but the gap between them isn’t big. Loveland broke out as a 19-year-old true sophomore in 2023, catching 45 balls for 649 yards and four TDs for the J.J. McCarthy-led Wolverines. Michigan’s passing game wasn’t nearly as productive without McCarthy last year, but Loveland still racked up 56 grabs for 582 yards and five TDs. He accounted for 38.6% of the team’s receiving yards and 45.5% of the TDs – beating Warren in both market-share categories. Loveland barely trailed Warren in Pro Football Focus receiving grade and yards per route, ranking top-five in the nation in both metrics. Loveland ran 48% of his routes from the slot over the last two seasons and projects in a similar role as a pro. He’s a fluid athlete with deft route-running skills and sticky hands. Coming from a pro-style offense, he’s a candidate to make an immediate impact. We’ll just need to keep an eye on the AC joint injury to Loveland’s right shoulder that required surgery in January. He’s expected to be cleared for training camp.

Bears WR Keenan Allen (ankle) is questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Vikings. He was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Friday. We’ll look for further updates on Allen, but he was already an unexciting fantasy option before this news. His absence would boost the target potential for WR D.J. Moore, WR Rome Odunze, and TE Cole Kmet.

He’s been on fire over the past two weeks, ranking first in PPR points per game (20.7) and fifth in receiving yards (134) among TEs. WR D.J. Moore did not fare as well in Sunday’s contest, recording just 3 catches for 44 yards. The turnaround time for the Bears is quite short as their Week 10 game vs. the Panthers is coming up on Thursday night. It won’t be an easy game for Kmet or Moore as the Carolina defense ranks as the second- and eighth-toughest matchup for opposing WRs and TEs respectively, per our our adjusted fantasy points allowed. That said, we may feel better about their fortunes if QB Justin Fields is able to return from his dislocated right thumb. Be sure to keep up with the injury reports in the coming days.

Kmet got all of his (minimal) production in the first half, before QB Justin Fields left with a right hand injury. He led the team in targets and catches at the break. For the game, only WR D.J. Moore caught more than two balls as Chicago totaled just 141 passing yards. We'll see about Fields' status for Week 7.

The Bears signed TE Robert Tonyan to a 1-year deal. Tonyan spiked for an 11-TD season in 2020 but tore an ACL midway through the 2021 campaign. He made it back for the start of this past season but was barely fantasy relevant, finishing with 53 catches, 470 yards and 2 TDs. Tonyan ranked 29th among 32 qualifying TEs in Pro Football Focus' receiving grades. Perhaps he bounces back in 2023, another year removed from that knee injury. But Tonyan figures to slot in as Chicago's #2 TE as long as Cole Kmet is healthy. Consider Tonyan no more than a TE3 in early fantasy drafts.
