Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson took the opening kickoff of Friday night's preseason game -- and his very first NFL touch -- to the house for a 100-yard TD. It was an impressive display of burst and long speed. But we already knew that Henderson was fast. We saw it at Ohio State. And he clocked a 4.43-second 40 time at the Combine. The much more interesting takeaway from this game was Henderson's usage on offense alongside RB Rhamondre Stevenson. Let's break it down.
Henderson was on the field for seven of QB Drake Maye's 14 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Stevenson played eight of those snaps.
There was a clear division of labor, though. The Patriots ran on five of Stevenson's eight snaps but passed on six of Henderson's seven. The rookie finished the night with one carry for 18 yards and three catches on three targets for 12 yards. Stevenson ran seven times for 36 yards and was not targeted.
It was an encouraging outing for Henderson overall. He confirmed the speed and worked in plenty with the first-team offense. Plus, RB Antonio Gibson didn't get any work with Maye.
Henderson will need more rushing work than this to be more than a RB3 or Flex play in PPR leagues, though. We're betting on him getting it, but it's a situation to monitor over the next month.
Stevenson also has a shot at some standalone fantasy value if he's going to lead the Patriots in carries.
