Darnell Mooney Struggles to Overcome QB Change

Entering Week 8, Falcons WR Darnell Mooney appeared positioned for strong volume. The team ruled out WR Drake London, which removed a 31% target share. But strong fantasy numbers never materialized, as Mooney caught only 1 of 4 targets (12.9%) for 11 yards alongside backup QB Kirk Cousins.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Cousins really struggled in this one. On the week, he finished 18th in EPA per drop back and 18th in completion rate over expected.

Those struggles carried over to Mooney, who was able to create separation against Miami’s DBs. On one second-quarter play, Mooney broke wide open on a double move, but Cousins’ pass arrived way too high.

Later, Cousins tried another deep ball to Mooney, but this time it was slightly overthrown in double coverage. The WR’s lone catch came on a deep in-breaker where he nearly bounced off a defender to reach the end zone.

We'll track the status of London (hip) and Michael Penix (knee) this week, but we tentatively expect both players to return. That scenario would place Mooney back in WR3/flex range for a matchup with New England.

        Other Winners & Losers

Kyle Pitts was the lone bright spot here, turning 9 targets into 9 catches for 59 yards. The catch total tied a single-game career high.

Bijan Robinson supplied the most disappointing outing of the day across any Week 8 game. Poor game script hurt, but Miami's resurgent run defense limited him to only 25 yards on 9 attempts. The blowout loss resulted in Bijan playing only 59% of the snaps.

Of course, he remains a top-end RB1 going forward. Pitts, meanwhile, continues to belong in the weekly TE1 mix. He's up to TE9 in PPR scoring this season.
