Jaguars insider John Shipley was not impressed by RB Tank Bigsby this offseason. "Bigsby had some issues with drops during the summer and didn't have the standout offseason program that he had last year," Shipley wrote.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
It's certainly worth mentioning that the media only gets to watch a handful of non-padded practices during the spring. But Shipley's words are noteworthy after Jacksonville's coaching staff spent the offseason talking up Bigsby heading into year two.
We heard plenty of buzz on Bigsby around this time last year, too -- and then he turned in a hideous rookie season. Bigsby mustered just 2.6 yards per carry on his 50 attempts and had more drops (3) than catches (1).
We'll be watching Bigsby closely in training camp and preseason action. The Jaguars would surely like their 2023 third-round pick to win the No. 2 job behind Travis Etienne. But Bigsby will need to play better to beat out RBs D'Ernest Johnson and Keilan Robinson.
At this point, Bigsby should not be a priority target even in the last round of best-ball drafts.
Other Winners & Losers
Jacksonville's coaching staff has talked about scaling back Etienne's snaps and touches a bit this season. But if Bigsby doesn't step up, we could see Etienne get a similar workload this year. He finished 12th among RBs in expected PPR points per game last year and seventh in actual PPR points per game.
Etienne is a solid value at his current RB10, mid-fourth-round best ball ADP.
