Week 7 Quarterback Preview: Will Baker Continue An MVP Pace?

Mayfield will likely be without Emeka Egbuka, but can he still deliver against Detroit? And what should you do with fringe options like Mac Jones and Matt Stafford?

Week 7 Quarterback Preview: Will Baker Continue An MVP Pace?

Top Fantasy QBs for Week 7

Let's break down the key usage notes and matchups that are driving our Week 7 QB Rankings.

        TIP

Find out who to start in fantasy football with our 'Who To Start?' tool.

Los Angeles Rams at Jacksonville Jaguars

        In London

        Matthew Stafford, Rams

Stafford comes off his worst fantasy performance of the season in windy Baltimore. Now, he must contend with traveling across the Atlantic and potentially being without WR Puka Nacua. LA enters this game as 3-point favorites, but are only implied to score a modest 23.75 points. The matchup is fine. Jacksonville has surrendered the 12th-most adjusted fantasy points to QBs. View Stafford as a borderline QB1/2 whose value would be boosted if Nacua is active.

        Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars

The Jaguars are set to take their annual trip to London, and Lawrence has his work cut out for him, facing a Los Angeles Rams' defense that allows the sixth-fewest adjusted fantasy points per game to QBs. However, Lawrence has thrown at least one TD in six straight international games. He's also playing his best ball of the season and is coming off a good performance versus a tough Seattle secondary. He's a mid-to-low-range QB2 this week against a Rams defense that has only allowed 7 TD passes in 6 games.

New Orleans Saints at Chicago Bears

        Caleb Williams, Bears

        Headshot of Caleb Williams

Williams broke out last week with his third QB1 week out of his first five games. He continues to take risks with a low completion percentage, but throwing the ball downfield (along with some rushing) has made him a more consistent fantasy threat. Lock him in as a top-5 QB option this week.

        Spencer Rattler, Saints

Rattler has been a fantasy surprise as a consistent QB2 whose legs give him a solid floor. He has 20+ rushing yards in each of the last three games. He is throwing high-percentage short throws, which have worked this season against the Bears. Rattler is an intriguing QB2 this week.

        Miami Dolphins at Cleveland Browns

        Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins

Tua hits the road to face a Browns pass defense allowing only 193.3 passing yards per game. We’re likely to get some heavy winds in this one, too, as well as rain potential. That’ll make Tagovailoa even tougher to trust in fantasy.

Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs

        Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs

Mahomes leads all QBs in fantasy points per game ... and now gets WR Rashee Rice back from suspension. He draws a Raiders defense on Sunday that's been respectable vs. the pass and ranks fifth in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs. But we'll take Mahomes and Co. in this matchup. The Chiefs are implied for 28.5 points -- 2nd most of the week.

        Philadelphia Eagles at Minnesota Vikings

        Jalen Hurts, Eagles

        Headshot of Jalen Hurts

Despite the increasing focus on figuring out what’s wrong with the Eagles offense, Hurts sits eighth among QBs in fantasy points per game. That’s lower than where we drafted him, but it’s tough to complain too much about 20+ fantasy points in five of six games. That included a 2-TD (one rushing), QB8 performance against the Giants even while Philly scored a mere 17 points. Minnesota presents a tough statistical passing matchup this week but also the No. 23 defense in rush DVOA. Keep rollin’ Hurts.

        Carson Wentz, Vikings

Wentz heads into this week with the highest sack rate for any season in which he has started more than one game, plus an ailing left shoulder. He’s an even riskier prospect this week than the usual Carson Wentz, despite Philly’s defense performing much worse than we’re used to.

Carolina Panthers at New York Jets

        Justin Fields, Jets

Aaron Glenn will stick with Fields for another week after his abysmal showing in London. This week, Fields should have an easier time against a Carolina defense that allows the 14th-most adjusted fantasy points to opposing QBs. The Panthers allowed Kyler Murray to run for 32 yards in Week 2 and gave up a rushing score to Drake Maye in Week 4, so Fields has a decent ceiling due to his rushing ability. View him as a mid-range QB2 in Week 7 with boom/bust potential.

        Bryce Young, Panthers

The Jets have allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to QBs, but have been somewhat unlucky. When adjusted for the schedule, New York comes in at 16th. Young is coming off a season-high 244 yards and 4 TDs against the Ravens, and Carolina is getting healthier. We view Young as a solid QB2 in Week 7 with the ceiling to contend for a second consecutive weekly QB1 finish.

New England Patriots at Tennessee Titans

        Drake Maye, Patriots

Maye has been a phenom this season and continued his dominance last week. He had 261 yards and 3 TDs with 28 rushing yards, ending as QB2 for the week. He has been a top-12 QB in four of the past five games. His rushing and play makes him a start even against a Titans defense that isn’t giving up a ton of QB scoring due to their lack of run defense.

New York Giants at Denver Broncos

        Bo Nix, Broncos

Nix has topped 18 fantasy points only once all season (Week 2 at Indianapolis). This week, he gets a Giants defense allowing the seventh-most passing yards per game and fifth-highest yards per play. The second-year QB is a viable – albeit low-floor – fantasy option.

        Jaxson Dart, Giants

Dart’s boosted his value with 50+ rushing yards in three straight starts. He’s scored a rushing TD in two of those games. Sunday turns up his toughest test, though, with a road matchup in Denver. The Broncos have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to enemy QBs. They’ve also limited Jalen Hurts to 3 rushing yards and Justin Fields to 31 rushing yards over the past two weeks. View the rookie as a fantasy QB2.

Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Chargers

        Justin Herbert, Chargers

        Headshot of Justin Herbert

We’re still learning about this Colts defense. They limited Tua Tagovailoa in Week 1, Cam Ward in Week 3, and Geno Smith in Week 5. But Bo Nix hit them for three TDs, as did Matthew Stafford. And then Jacoby Brissett went for 320 and 2 TDs in nearly beating Indy last week. That all makes it fairly easy to bet on Herbert delivering at least solid numbers against the Colts this week.

        Daniel Jones, Colts

The Chargers have yet to allow a QB to throw more than one TD pass in a game. But they have allowed the second-most rushing yardage to the position, with every starting QB hitting them for at least 20 on the ground so far. Jones rebounded last week from three outings of modest production. The return to rushing was particularly welcome after he ran just once apiece in games against the Rams and Raiders. Jones has averaged 5.5 carries across his other four contests.

Green Bay Packers at Arizona Cardinals

        Jordan Love, Packers

Love has been on point all season, completing 70% of his passes at 8.6 yards per attempt with a 6.1% TD rate. He sits just 14th among QBs in fantasy points, though, because he's averaging only 29.4 pass attempts per game. Love has only topped 31 attempts in that crazy 40-40 overtime tie vs. the Cowboys. We're unlikely to get big volume this Sunday with the Packers 6.5-point favorites vs. the Cardinals. But efficiency should at least carry Love to a solid fantasy outing. Arizona ranks 23rd in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs.

        Washington Commanders at Dallas Cowboys

        Jayden Daniels, Commanders

Since returning from a knee injury, Daniels has gained 39 and 52 rushing yards. He’s totaled 18 carries over that stretch. It’s a nice development for sure, while Daniels could also get Terry McLaurin (quad) back for a matchup vs. Dallas. We’ll monitor the status of Deebo Samuel (heel), but Daniels is a top QB1 regardless. The Commanders are implied for the third-most points on the slate (28.25).

UPDATE: McLaurin was ruled out on Friday.

        Dak Prescott, Cowboys

Prescott has hit 25 fantasy points in three straight, despite playing without CeeDee Lamb (ankle). Now with Lamb on track to return vs. Washington, Dak’s QB1 outlook only strengthens. Just keep an eye on the pass rush matchup here, as Washington enters with the third-best pressure rate in the league (40.6%).

Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49ers

        Mac Jones, 49ers

It appears Jones is in line for another start, and Kyle Shanahan’s system has made him a solid QB2 option. He finished as a top-15 QB in each of his first three games but fell back to QB22 last week against the Buccaneers. The Falcons have been tough for opposing fantasy QBs, holding down Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen. That keeps Jones as a high-end QB2.

        Michael Penix Jr., Falcons

Penix has only been a QB1 once so far this season, so don’t expect much upside in this matchup against the 49ers. The Falcons have leaned on the run and may do that again with Bijan Robinson. Penix is QB29 in points per game, so bench him if possible.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions

        Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers

Detroit's secondary has been vulnerable so far this season. The Lions have allowed 13 TD passes, which is tied for third-most in the league. Meanwhile, Mayfield has produced multiple TD passes in all but one of his games and ranks fourth with 1,539 passing yards. Tampa's WR corps is banged up, but Mayfield still passed for 256 and 2 TDs last week. Expect a high-scoring, back-and-forth shootout between these two NFC contenders. Mayfield is a solid QB1 with top-5 upside in Detroit.

        Jared Goff, Lions

Goff leads the NFL with 14 TD passes and is in a strong position to add multiple scores to that total. Goff has tossed 2-plus TDs in 8 consecutive games at Ford Field and gets an excellent Week 7 matchup against a Tampa defense that has surrendered 340-plus passing yards in back-to-back games and allows the ninth-most adjusted fantasy points to the position. Goff is a locked-in QB1 with top-5 upside in a game with a fantasy-friendly total of 52.5 points.

        Houston Texans at Seattle Seahawks

        Sam Darnold, Seahawks

        Headshot of Sam Darnold

Darnold has proved impressively steady in tossing 2+ TD passes four of the past five weeks. But a Week 7 visit from Houston lowers his floor. The Texans have allowed just three TD passes and 6.3 yards per attempt through five games.

        C.J. Stroud, Texans

Stroud has delivered two straight positive outings (before last week’s bye) and might be turned around from his rough start. But those games came against a soft Tennessee defense and a heavily depleted version of the Ravens. We’ll need to see more before trusting him against a defense like Seattle’s, which ranks seventh in overall DVOA and ninth against the pass.
