Lucas Krull a Deep Sleeper?

Keep an eye on Broncos TE Lucas Krull as a deep fantasy football sleeper. Last year, he caught only 8 balls in 7 games. But according to Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post, the Broncos are "banking on" Krull to "provide some pop" at TE. Greg Dulcich missed the offseason program with a foot injury. Meanwhile, HC Sean Payton has praised Krull for his work at OTAs/minicamp.

What They're Saying

“(Krull) has good vertical speed. He’s young, so we think there is room to grow,” Payton said this offseason. “That was one of the reasons we signed him. So these camps benefit certain players a little bit more than others because you can get into your patterns and see some things.”

Here’s the bottom-line assessment on Krull when he came out of college (via NFL.com's Lance Zierlein).

“Krull lacks game experience and his hands are a little spotty, but he's a competitive, passionate player with NFL traits and could benefit from a team willing to invest time and coaching into his development.”

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

Realistically, Krull is a longshot to produce worthwhile fantasy numbers.

After all, he’s a 2022 UDFA with 8 catches in two seasons.

In college, Krull transferred from Florida to escape Kyle Pitts’ shadow. He posted only one productive season (38-451-6) alongside Kenny Pickett in Pittsburgh.

Just understand: Krull, 26, brings enticing athleticism. While he wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine, here’s how he fared at Pittsburgh’s pro day:

  • Size: 6-foot-6 1/8, 253 pounds
  • Wingspan: 80 inches
  • Forty Time: 4.54 seconds
  • Shuttle: 4.35 seconds
  • 3-Cone: 7.16 seconds
  • Vertical: 35 inches

Beyond Dulcich, Krull will need to beat out returning veteran Adam Trautman for snaps. It’s one of several position battles we’ll watch closely in Denver.

Rankings Movement

Krull is currently buried in our fantasy football TE rankings. But with a strong training camp, there’s a path to earn sleeper status – at least in TE premium formats.
