Falcons QB Kirk Cousins (Achilles) has been medically cleared for training camp and will take all first-team reps while QBs Michael Penix Jr. and Taylor Heinicke split second-team reps.
HC Raheem Morris: "Kirk Cousins is ready to go and medically cleared. There may be some modifications to the regiment but we will see him at practice."
Cousins being able to open training camp means he is in line to play Week 1 of the NFL season as the starter for the Falcons.
There was concern that Cousins' achilles injury would hinder him through camp and that he may miss a game or two to start the season.
Cousins starting the year is positive for his fantasy value as a QB2 with some upside to be a QB1 this season.
Drake London and Kyle Pitts benefit from Cousins being in camp to improve their rapport together. Starting the entire season is ideal for the fantasy value of the top two pass catchers for Cousins
This also means Michael Penix is unlikely to see the field as a rookie unless an injury happens to Cousins.
Penix is currently competing with Heinicke for the back-up job to start the year.
