Johnny Wilson Pushing For No. 3 WR Job

Eagles WR Johnny Wilson has had a strong start to training camp and is making a run at the No. 3 WR job, according to The Athletic's Brooks Kubena. Wilson has started getting first-team reps, while WR Parris Campbell is sidelined with an injury.

        What They're Saying

Kubena on Wilson and the No. 3 WR spot: "[Jalen] Hurts complimented Wilson twice unsolicited while speaking with reporters Friday. Does that mean Wilson is the offense’s No. 3 WR? That’s a shifty definition within [OC Kellen] Moore’s offense, which rotates receivers across several different alignments in search of the best matchup. Sirianni said the No. 3 WR could utilize Wilson’s blocking, Parris Campbell’s ability to gain yards in space or John Ross’ speed."

        2024 Fantasy Football Impact

The Eagles' No. 3 WR will not be a reliable weekly fantasy option behind WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith -- not to mention TE Dallas Goedert and RB Saquon Barkley.

But there's some best-ball intrigue here. Philadelphia is implied for the league's sixth-most points, giving anyone on the field for this offense some spike-week potential.

Wilson fell to the sixth round of this spring's draft but is an interesting prospect. He's a monstrous 6’6, 231-pounder who averaged 18.0 yards per catch at Florida State over the past two seasons. Wilson notably beat then-teammate and Bills second-round WR Keon Coleman last year in yards per game, yards per route, yards per target, and Pro Football Focus receiving grade.

We'll continue to track this position battle over the next month. But if you're taking a flier on an Eagles WR late in best-ball drafts, Wilson looks like the best bet right now.

        Other Winners & Losers

Campbell and John Ross aren't draftable at this point. It's also noteworthy that Sirianni did not mention fifth-round rookie Ainias Smith when talking about the No. 3 WR job.
