Giants RB Tyrone Tracy escaped with merely a low-ankle sprain after leaving the practice field on a cart with an air cast on his right leg, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Rapoport: "He's in a boot and is week-to-week. But not long-term. Much better than anticipated."
HC Brian Daboll: "I think he's done a good job of really picking up all the little nuances, the protections, the identifications, the route concepts, the alignments. He's a smart player. I'm glad we got him. ... He's got good size though. He's got good length. He's done well for a young player that's just entered into our program.
With nearly four weeks to go before the Giants' Sept. 8 regular-season opener, there's still time for Tracy to be ready. And it sure sounds like Daboll's pleased with how the fifth-round pick has performed.
Whether the Giants make a move at RB this week should give us some signal on how soon the rookie might return.
As it stands, Eric Gray and Dante Miller look like the next guys up behind Devin Singletary.

The return timeline is not yet clear for Tracy, but it doesn't sound like the team is expecting him to miss regular-season games yet.
