Elijah Mitchell Back At Practice

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell returned to practice on Wednesday. He ended up missing a little over two weeks with a hamstring injury.

RB Jordan Mason took full advantage of Mitchell's absence and might be the favorite to open the season as San Francisco's No. 2 RB.

We're still two-and-a-half weeks from the season opener, though, so this battle likely isn't decided. We'll keep a close eye on the situation. Whoever wins the No. 2 job will be a high-value handcuff in this always-efficient 49ers running game.

RB Christian McCaffrey, of course, has already missed time this month with a calf injury.
