WR and Returner Kadarius Toney was released by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs had recently signed Juju Smith-Schuster and Toney appears to have lost his place on the roster. Toney was inconsistent in his play, but did have an impact during Super Bowl LVII
Toney was fighting for a roster spot on the Chiefs throughout camp with their additions of WR Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown in the offseason.
With Worthy's return ability, Toney was facing an uphill battle on making the Super Bowl champions' roster.
Yesterday, the Chiefs signed Smith-Schuster which pushed Toney even further down the depth chart.
The former first-round pick was known in the fantasy community for his gaffes and drops, but he did add special teams and trick play ability.
The Chiefs acquired Toney from the Giants back in 2022, costing them a 2023 third and sixth-round picks. Ultimately, Toney failed to live up to the expectations of that deal.
Talent wasn't holding Toney back with tremendous athleticism and upside, but the mental side of the game never seemed to come to him. Even with potentially improved coaching in Kansas City, Toney was not able to make much of a positive impact.
It is unlikely that Toney will find a spot where he could have a fantasy impact this season.
A loaded supporting cast, improved QB play, and offensive continuity set the stage for Atlanta to deliver serious fantasy value in 2025.
