Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett has been the starter for their opening week game against the Bengals. He was in a competition with rookie Drake Maye, who appeared toto be pulling closer to Brissett in the past week. Ultimately HC Jerod Mayo will go with the veteran presence early in the season, but Maye, the third overall pick in this year's draft, will likely become the starter sooner rather than later.
Adam Schefter of ESPN: "Patriots HC Jerod Mayo just informed his team that Jacoby Brissett will be New England’s Week 1 starting quarterback vs. the Bengals. The favorite to start in the battle with rookie QB Drake Maye now gets the Week 1 nod. But Maye’s time is coming."
Brissett starting at QB severely limits the ceiling of the Patriots offense as a whole. Though Maye would be likely to have his bumps in the road as a rookie, we certainly know that Brissett is merely a journeyman QB.
Brissett likely caps the Patriots scoring upside as a whole.
The last starting job Brissett had was in 2022 with the Cleveland Browns where he started 11 games posting 2.608 passing yards with 12 TDs and 6 INTs.
WRs Ja'Lynn Polk and Demario Douglas can't be relied upon early in the fantasy season, even if they have good match-ups.
Rhamondre Stevenson may be the only usable Patriot, especially if OC Alex Van Pelt's RB Screen game is strong with Brissett at QB. Even so, don't expect many TDs for Stevenson.
