Joey Bosa Working Through Broken Hand

Chargers Edge Joey Bosa revealed to reporters Thursday that he broke his left hand during an Aug. 4 joint practice with the Rams and needed surgery, according to ESPN's Kris Rhim. Bosa returned to practice earlier this week for the first time since the injury, wearing a club on the repaired hand. Bosa said he won't miss any games but will sport the club for a while.

        What They're Saying

Bosa: "It sucks. I mean, the first second you get injured, you have a million thoughts go through your head and most of them are negative. I was feeling really good about the place I was heading to, and I still do. I went through the woes for a couple days and, you know, got good news and, you know, moved on."

Bosa on why he has the club, without giving a timeline for it coming off: "There's no reason to rush and cause any problems. Not that there really could be, other than some pain of a bunch of hardware in there, keeping my bones together, so it's not really a risk of much of an injury."

        2024 Fantasy Football Impact

        We'll see.

It's obviously more difficult for any edge player to do his job with one of his hands covered up. But we've also seen plenty of guys succeed through the years in spite of that challenge.

Bosa already sat in DL3 territory of our rankings after a rough couple of seasons that saw him miss 20 of a possible 34 games with multiple injuries. That remains a fine range for the veteran, who heads into his age-29 season.

        Other Winners & Losers

Second-year Edge Tuli Tuipulotu could get more playing time in the rotation with Bosa's limitation and missed training-camp time.

We'll see over the first couple of weeks what the Chargers' rotation looks like up front.

A new coaching staff will affect that as well.
