Cowboys TE Luke Schoonmaker tied for the team lead with 6 receptions in Sunday's loss to the Saints. His 6 targets and 43 yards each ranked third on the team. That comes out to just 7.2 yards per catch, though. And Schoonmaker split playing time with TE Brevyn Spann-Ford.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Schoonmaker beat Spann-Ford 6-1 in targets. But he played just six more snaps and ran five more routes.
Schoonmaker did have 3 receptions by halftime, but the two of them split playing time the whole way. The second-round pick from last year would make sense as the preferred pass-catcher, but the route shares don't point to a meaningful lead.
It's also worth noting that both TEs ranked behind four Cowboys WRs in routes. And Spann-Ford also trailed WR5 KaVontae Turpin, 13-12.
Although Schoonmaker arrived as a higher-level prospect, Spann-Ford beat him 95-54 in college receptions and averaged 11.2 yards per catch to Schoonmaker's 11.8. And both rated well in speed score by their Scouting Combine numbers:
- 88th percentile for Schoonmaker
- 77th percentile for Spann-Ford
We'll see about Jake Ferguson. He originally appeared headed for multiple missed games with his knee injury. But then Dallas listed him as questionable on the Friday injury report for Week 2 (before downgrading Ferguson to doubtful).
If he's ready to play against the Ravens in Week 3, then Schoonmaker vs. Spann-Ford won't matter.
