Patriots QB Drake Maye will start this weekend's game vs. the Texans, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. New England hung on to QB Jacoby Brissett as long as it could -- but you can only stick with a QB averaging 5.2 yards per attempt for so long.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Maye brings much more natural ability than Brissett -- both in terms of arm talent and athleticism. That'll certainly give this Patriots offense a higher ceiling going forward.
The floor will remain low, though. On top of the experience that Maye lacks, this remains one of the worst supporting casts in the NFL. New England's offensive line ranks 30th in Pro Football Focus' pass-blocking grades and dead last in ESPN's pass block win rate. The WR corps has some young talent but hasn't flashed a whole lot to get excited about so far.
Maye is certainly worth rostering in all 2-QB and superflex leagues. But we're skeptical of his chances of emerging as a QB1 this season. He'll make his first career start against a tough Texans defense. Then comes a plus matchup vs. the Jaguars before a brutal draw against the Jets.
The Patriots' remaining QB schedule ranks 10th toughest, according to our adjusted fantasy points allowed.
