Should You Worry About Joe Burrow's Weak Numbers vs. Giants?

        Joe Burrow Headshot

Bengals QB Joe Burrow saved his Week 6 fantasy line with a 47-yard TD run in the first quarter of Sunday night's win over the Giants. But that accompanied a mere 208 yards and no TDs on 19-of-28 passing (67.9%). Those numbers come out to solid rates for Burrow, but the yardage was his lowest since the Week 1 loss to New England. And the Giants defense deserves credit.

        What They're Saying

Burrow on the Giants defense: “They’re the real deal, and they didn’t have one of their guys today. They’ve got good games. They’ve got good players. They made it tough on us, and their secondary was sticking coverage all day. It’s a good defense.”

        2024 Fantasy Football Impact

"One of their guys" is Kayvon Thibodeaux, the Giants edge player who landed on short-term IR ahead of Sunday night's game.

New York still sacked Burrow four times without him. The Giants now have four more sacks on the season (26) than any other team and are averaging a league-high 4.3 sacks per game.

Burrow also notched a minus-2.7% completion percentage over expected for the game on plays where he held the ball longer than 2.5 seconds. That's a credit to the Giants' coverage.

That followed New York limiting Geno Smith to 231 passing yards in a Week 5 win at Seattle. That's the most for any Giants opponent through six games.

Burrow had averaged 301.5 yards and 3 passing TDs per game across the four contests before Sunday night, so I'm not worried about him right now.

        Other Winners & Losers

The Giants' DST carries some Week 7 upside against a Philly offense that currently ranks just 16th in passing DVOA. The Eagles also allowed 4+ sacks to two of their past three opponents.

After that matchup, the Giants visit Pittsburgh, host Washington, and then visit Carolina before a Week 11 bye.
