Saints WR Rashid Shaheed had the meniscus repaired in his knee today and will be out for the rest of the season. He will go on Injured Reserve and face a four to six month recovery.
Adam Schefter of ESPN: "Update: Doctors wound [up] repairing the meniscus in Saints’ WR Rashid Shaheed’s knee today and he now faces a four-to-six month recovery, per source. Shaheed was placed on injured reserve and his season is over."
Shaheed suffered the knee injury last week against the Buccaneers.
There was optimism that it could be a minor procedure, but when doctors took a look, he needed a full meniscus repair.
Shaheed will miss the rest of the season but should have plenty recovery time for next year.
This puts the Saints in a bind with a thin WR unit to begin with and QB Derek Carr along with WR Chris Olave also hurt.
Rookie WRs Mason Tipton and Bub Means will likely have to take the mantle for Shaheed. Means 4.43 speed could replace the deep threat ability for Shaheed while Tipton continues playing in the slot.
It is a massive downgrade to their offense, return game, and even the scoring potential for RB Alvin Kamara
