Giants Bench Daniel Jones, Going With Tommy DeVito

        Daniel Jones Headshot

The Giants are benching QB Daniel Jones, NFL Network reports. It's being "deemed a football decision," according to Mike Garafolo, which is fair considering Jones' play this season. But the move also protects the Giants from the 2025 $23 million injury guarantee in Jones' contract. We've very likely seen the last of Jones on the field for the Giants. The team will start QB Tommy DeVito -- not QB Drew Lock -- against the Buccaneers this weekend, per NFL Network.

        2024 Fantasy Football Impact

Jones has remained as inconsistent as ever this season, playing well in spurts but putting way too much bad football on tape. He's averaged just 6.1 yards per attempt with eight TDs and seven INTs.

Jones deserves plenty of the blame -- he ranks 20th among 35 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' passing grades -- but New York's offensive line has remained a problem, especially since losing OT Andrew Thomas in mid-October.

So don't expect this passing game to be any better under DeVito, who averaged just 6.2 yards on 178 pass attempts last year. He's nothing more than a desperation add in 2-QB and Superflex leagues. We're still expecting to see Lock under center for New York at some point this season.

        Other Winners & Losers

We're not certainly not upgrading WR Malik Nabers on this news. While Jones disappointed this season, he at least targeted Nabers on a whopping 30% of his routes.

The rookie's volume should remain strong with DeVito, but we don't know for sure how he'll operate. And we can't project Nabers' efficiency to improve considering DeVito's ability and the fact that these two have very little rapport.

The good news for Nabers is that he has the easiest remaining WR schedule. That gives him a shot at WR1 production the rest of the way. He should at least be a volume-based WR2.
