Niners HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed Monday that RB Christian McCaffrey will miss at least the rest of the regular season with the PCL injury in his right knee. He also revealed that RB Jordan Mason will head to IR with a high-ankle sprain.
Mason won't be eligible to return from IR until Week 18 at the earliest. So he's also cuttable from fantasy rosters this week.
The dual RB injuries leave rookie Isaac Guerendo as the new backfield leader. Patrick Taylor is the only RB on the practice squad, so expect the 49ers to also add someone else.
The RB injuries could also shift a bit more volume to the passing game, especially with weather unlikely to be an issue the rest of the way.
San Francisco gets a pair of home games, a visit to Miami, and then a Week 17 home date with Detroit.
We're not making any big rest-of-season rankings changes to Brock Purdy or Niners pass catchers but will certainly be watching the Week 14 run-pass split.
Guerendo becomes a high-priority add on waivers this week. Don't be afraid to blow the rest of your bidding budget on him if you either need the RB help or don't have other needs heading into the season's final quarter.
Taylor can be stashed in deeper leagues.
