Buccaneers HC Todd Bowles told reporters Monday that S Antoine Winfield Jr. suffered a knee sprain in Sunday's win over the Raiders and will miss "multiple games," according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
With just three weeks left in most fantasy football seasons, we have to assume that Winfield won't be available for IDP lineups the rest of the way.
If you have a deep enough roster, you can stash the star DB until we get something more official. If not, though, he's OK to dump.
We'll see exactly what the replacement plan looks like. The Bucs had already placed S Jordan Whitehead on IR and won't get him back until at least Week 17.
S Mike Edwards -- who rejoined the team in November and started Week 13 -- missed Sunday's game with a hamstring injury.
That left Kaevon Merriweather and Christian Izien joining Winfield in the starting lineup. Izien played 65 of 67 defensive snaps, with Merriweather in for 55 (82%).
Edwards' status will be worth watching ahead of a Week 15 visit to the Chargers.
The Bucs now sit a full game ahead of second-place Atlanta in the division but lost both meetings to the Falcons this year. That obviously means Atlanta would win a tiebreaker.
After the Chargers, Tampa visits Dallas and then heads back home to face the Panthers and Saints.
How the Bucs -- and Falcons -- navigate the next couple of weeks could help determine whether they bring Winfield back during the regular season.
