Caleb Williams Takes 7 More Sacks

        Caleb Williams Headshot

Bears QB Caleb Williams took seven sacks in Thursday night's loss to the Seahawks. It was his fourth game of the season with 7+ sacks. Williams is up to 67 sacks on the season -- the fourth most in NFL history. He finished Week 17 with just 122 passing yards, 0 TDs, and a game-ending INT on a desperation heave. Williams ran five times for 37 yards, but it wasn't enough to keep this from being a total fantasy dud.

        Dynasty Impact

Williams has done some good things during his rookie season. His INT vs. Seattle was just his sixth of the season and his first since Week 6. He's also run for 479 yards -- seventh most among QBs -- with at least 27 rushing yards in 10 of 16 games.

Williams has finished as a top-10 fantasy QB in six different weeks.

But the bad has outweighed the good. Williams has completed 61.9% of his passes at just 6.4 yards per attempt. That latter mark ranks 30th among 36 qualifying QBs. His accuracy has been inconsistent, and he's struggled connecting on deep shots all season. Williams has completed only 29% of his passes 20+ yards downfield -- 32nd among those 36 qualifiers.

But his biggest problem has been the sacks. Chicago's offensive line deserves plenty of blame, but Williams has a bad habit of drifting backward rather than stepping up into the pocket. And he holds onto the ball for too long. 28% of pressures on Williams have turned into sacks this season. That's the second-highest rate in the league, behind only Will Levis.

Williams' tools are certainly enticing: A cannon for an arm and excellent mobility. But he's ultimately a raw QB prospect at this point.

This will be a big offseason for him, especially with the Bears bringing in a new coaching staff. We'll see what they do about the offensive line. WR Keenan Allen will hit free agency in March, but WRs D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze, TE Cole Kmet, and RB D'Andre Swift will be back in 2025. There are plenty of weapons here.

Hang on to Williams if you own him in dynasty. If not, it's worth tossing out a buy-low offer this offseason. The cost of missing on a QB in dynasty isn't crushing. And if Williams hits, his combination of arm talent and rushing ability will give him top-5 fantasy upside.
