The Texans have waived WR Diontae Johnson ahead of their Divisional Round playoff game against the Chiefs. That marks the fourth team that has sent him away since the end of the 2023 NFL season.
Johnson caught just three passes with Texans, but all came over the past two games.
The first of those games was a Week 18 contest that saw Houston rest starters. But he then played 16 snaps (22%) in the playoff opener.
That still landed Johnson just fifth among Texans WRs in playing time, though. That's clearly an expendable level.
To waive the player at this time of year just a few days after playing him, though, suggests off-field issues with Johnson.
It wasn't necessarily a red flag when Pittsburgh traded him away. The Steelers got a starting CB in the return package.
But Carolina trading him -- and getting very little in return -- followed by Baltimore and Houston quitting on the 28-year-old clearly stand a level beyond red flag.
Johnson still isn't someone you need to drop in dynasty, if you have a spot to stash him and want to see what happens next. He has, after all, been picked up each time a team has quit on him this year.
But the wideout certainly is droppable if you're making roster decisions this offseason.
Odds stand against him making a 2025 impact at this point. We'll see about rehabbing his career in general.
