Aaron Rodgers to Keep Playing ... for a New Team?

By Matt Schauf | Updated on Sun, Feb 9 2025 8:42 PM UTC
        Aaron Rodgers Headshot

Fox's Jay Glazer reports that the Jets recently told QB Aaron Rodgers that they're "moving on from him." That reportedly came in a meeting Rodgers had flown back to New Jersey for. So not only should we expect the Jets to be in the market for a new QB, but Rodgers also appears to be interested in playing in 2025.

        What They're Saying

Glazer: "Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play. It just won't be for the Jets."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Rodgers finished 15th among QBs in total fantasy points and 20th in points per game among multi-game starters last season. And his rate stats looked fine vs. other recent campaigns.

It's tough to see another natural fit for Rodgers at the moment. The past two OCs he has played under -- Nathaniel Hackett and Adam Stenavich -- are currently out of work.

Some team is likely to take a shot on the veteran QB, though, if he decides to play. That makes Rodgers worth a look late in current best ball drafting.

        Jets Options

The free-agent market -- unsurprisingly -- doesn't have many QB answers.

Sam Darnold looks like the top option ... and would be a funny move for the team that drafted him in 2018 before trading Darnold to the Panthers in 2021.

Any other free-agent QB would come with an even lower floor and ceiling.

As for the NFL Draft, the Jets pick seventh and could certainly be in position to add a QB there -- albeit from a class that doesn't seems to be exciting any draft analysts.

        Other Winners & Losers

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adds that we shouldn't be surprised if the Jets also move on from WR Davante Adams, who carries a $38.3 million cap hit for 2025.

"They could reunite elsewhere," he says. "Adams would like to be on the West Coast, I'm told." Rodgers, of course, grew up in California and went to Cal.

We'll be watching Rodgers and Adams closely -- along with how the Jets progress.
