        Saints Rolling with Derek Carr?

        Derek Carr Headshot

Saints GM Mickey Loomis said Wednesday that the team plans to stick with QB Derek Carr in 2025. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo inidicated, however, that the two sides might need to talk contract ahead of a year that's set to count Carr as a $51.5 million cap hit and pay him $40 million in cash.

        What They're Saying

Loomis: "I think we've got a guy we can win with."

Garafolo: "Until the financial part is figured out, we don't know that for sure."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

It seems most likely that Carr stays in New Orleans. His salary and cap number are obviously egregious.

But it looked that way as soon as the Saints gave him the contract ahead of 2023. And Loomis hasn't yet let perennial cap issues keep him from signing and re-signing his guys. (Just look at Taysom Hill and Alvin Kamara.)

Carr opened last season with two big fantasy weeks but quickly petered out. He dealt with injuries to WRs Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed and lost time himself to an oblique injury and then a hand injury.

Carr wound up just 22nd among multi-game starters in fantasy points per game for the season and belongs in that area of the 2025 rankings.

        Other Winners & Losers

Carr sticking in New Orleans would be good news for Kamara and likely the WRs as well.

Even if they moved on from Carr, the Saints would be poorly positioned to chase a different expensive free agent and might not find an upgrade in the draft -- despite holding the ninth pick.

Spencer Rattler sits No. 2 on the depth chart and didn't look ready to improve on Carr's performance or production in limited stints last year.

        Best Ball Outlook

Carr sits just 30th among QBs in best ball ADP. That makes him an easy value at a time of year when you should often roster three QBs.

Having the Saints say that they want him back also makes Carr an easy stack with Olave, Shaheed, Kamara, and even TE Juwan Johnson late. He's going just TE28 in Underdog Fantasy ADP.
