Jets Ready to Dump Davante Adams However They Can

        Davante Adams Headshot

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets are "taking calls" on a potential trade for WR Davante Adams. If the team can't move him that way, it's expected to release Adams. The WR carries $38.3 million cap hits for each of the two years remaining on his contract. According to Spotrac, though, the Jets would save more than $60 million in cap space over that span by unloading Adams.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Those cap numbers will likely make it tough for the Jets to find a trade partner on the 32-year-old wideout.

Adams, though, remained plenty productive after last year's trade. He averaged 6.1 receptions and 77.6 yards per game across 11 contests with the Jets.

That easily led WR Garrett Wilson in both categories (5.5 receptions, 64.1 yards per game). And Wilson also trailed Adams 7-4 in TD catches over their shared time.

Expect Adams to land comfortably somewhere, even if that comes after a release.

Beware of his age, though. Our historical aging research says WRs tend to see significant production drops at age 32. Last season might technically qualify as Adams' age-32 season, but he didn't hit that age until Dec. 24.

We'll see where Adams lands before digging further into expectations. He currently sits 17th in our PPR WR rankings.

Of course, we'll all also be watching to see if his landing spot winds up tied to QB Aaron Rodgers.

        Other Winners & Losers

Wilson should win for Adams' departure. He averaged 6.8 catches and 66.5 yards per game before Adams arrived last year.

We'll see, though, who will wind up as Wilson's new QB -- with Rodgers leaving.

We'll also see what else the Jets do at WR. Adams' expected departure leaves RB Breece Hall as the only other returning Jet who drew more than 60 targets last year.

Allen Lazard finished fifth on the team in targets last season and has two more years on his contract. We'll see if he sticks around, as well as whether 2024 third-round pick Malachi Corley appears ready for a big role boost.

Corley drew just 6 targets across nine appearances as a rookie.

        Projected ADP Movement

Adams' best ball ADP has found him going at a fine value so far: WR27 in half-PPR drafting.

That could rise once he has a new home, if he and Rodgers land together on a team without an existing lead WR.

I wouldn't bet on the ADP climbing too much, though. Early drafters have likely at least been considering Adams a potential (if not likely) mover. And fantasy drafters generally move aging players down the board.
