The Saints have terminated the contract of RB Jamaal Williams. The move releases Williams ahead of the final year of his contract and saves the team a few million dollars in cap space. Williams signed with New Orleans as a free agent after racking up a league-leading 17 rushing TDs for the 2022 Lions. He'll turn 30 in April.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Williams has more than halved his carry totals each of the past two years:
- from 262 in Detroit to 106 in 2023
- and then to just 48 last season.
Williams also managed just 3.1 yards per carry across his New Orleans time, down from 4.0 in both his Packers and Lions stints.
Perhaps Williams lands deep on some other roster this offseason. But it's tough to imagine why a team would carry the veteran on the regular-season roster over one of the intriguing rookies from this year's class.
Other Winners & Losers
Alvin Kamara will obviously lead the backfield after getting a contract extension last fall.
Kendre Miller stands as the likely No. 2, with Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jordan Mims, and Xazavian Valladay also currently on the 2025 roster.
We'll see whether the Saints add anyone via free agency or the draft. But there are plenty of roster soft spots and no cap space.
