The Cowboys have agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with RB Javonte Williams (plus another $500K available in incentives). Williams spent his first four seasons with the Broncos, losing nearly all of 2022 to a multi-ligament knee injury.
ESPN's Todd Archer: "Might spell the end of Rico Dowdle with the Cowboys, but would expect the Cowboys to look at a RB early in the draft if they don't add another back."
Dowdle's a free agent right now. A mere $3 million for Williams certainly won't keep the Cowboys from also bringing Dowdle back -- if they still want him.
If the don't, then bet on Dallas adding more via the draft and/or free agency.
Jerry Jones can't have been satisfied with last year's low-cost backfield, which ranked just 30th in total PPR points.
Williams certainly looks like the best bet to lead in touches vs. Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis. But I'd be shocked if Dallas is close to done.
Despite heading into just his age-25 season, Williams looks like a poor long-term bet.
If you're holding him in dynasty right now, you could see whether anyone in your league is excited about this landing spot. You might need to wait until closer to the season -- or in season -- to make it work, though.
You shouldn't be drafting Dowdle in best ball right now. If he actually signs with a team, then we'll talk.
Williams carries a mid-16th round best ball ADP as of this writing. He's certainly fine to take shots on in that range. Just don't start drafting him like he's Dallas' starter yet.
A loaded supporting cast, improved QB play, and offensive continuity set the stage for Atlanta to deliver serious fantasy value in 2025.
