WR Michael Gallup has signed with the Commanders, the team announced Thursday. Gallup last played for the Cowboys in 2023. He signed a one-year deal with the Raiders for 2024 but retired before the season started.
Gallup just turned 29, which still finds him within the traditionally prime years for a WR. But we obviously can't know what he's got left until he actually gets back onto the field.
Gallup tore his right ACL late in the 2021 season. He returned to play two more seasons with Dallas but dipped to 2.8 receptions per game in 2022 and then just 2.0 the next year. He also turned in his two lowest yards-per-catch rates.
Washington obviously returns WR Terry McLaurin, traded for WR Deebo Samuel, and re-signed TE Zach Ertz and WR K.J. Osborn. Plus there's WR Luke McCaffrey and TE Ben Sinnott from Day 2 of last year's draft.
At this point, it seems at least as likely that Gallup doesn't make the regular-season roster as he becomes a fantasy factor.
We'll see if anything changes.
