Dre Greenlaw in Danger of Missing 2025 Season

Broncos LB Dre Greenlaw recently suffered a quad tear during a workout, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan. Greenlaw could miss "a substantial portion" of the season, with at least a chance he misses the whole thing. Greenlaw signed with Denver in free agency this offseason.

        What They're Saying

Jennifer Lee Chan: "Recovery from a quadricep tear can range from several weeks ... to several months if surgery is required. The Broncos have declined to comment at the time this story has been published."

Denver's lack of comment suggests the team and player might be working through a couple of issues here.

First, it's entirely possible Greenlaw and the Broncos don't yet know the severity or his expected return timeline.

Second, there's potential for conflict here depending on details of the workout and the LB's contract. According to Spotrac, Greenlaw's contract holds much smaller guarantees beyond 2025. That could make him cuttable ahead of the deal's second season.

In the meantime, Justin Strnad and Drew Sanders look like the top in-house candidates to compete for Greenlaw's spot next to Alex Singleton -- who's coming off his own ACL tear.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Denver add a lower-level free agent as well. Top candidates there include:

        • C.J. Mosley
        • Kyzir White
        • Ja'Whaun Bentley
        • Shaq Thompson
        • Eric Kendricks
