The Athletic's Daniel Popper believes Chargers WR Quentin Johnston "is going to have to earn his roster spot in camp." Popper has Mike Williams and rookie Tre Harris projected to start on the outside, with Ladd McConkey in the slot.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Popper's projected depth chart is a little surprising considering Johnston is a former first-round pick who took a step forward in 2024. He went from a 38-431-2 line as a rookie to 55-711-8 last year. Johnston also improved his yards per route (0.88 to 1.63) and Pro Football Focus receiving grade (58.7 to 68.2).
Those 2024 marks still ranked just 44th and 59th, respectively, among 88 qualifying WRs, though. And, of course, Johnston was inherited by HC Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman. Williams and Harris were added this offseason.
This battle for snaps will be worth watching closely this summer. There's certainly room for a second Chargers WR behind McConkey to be a fantasy factor. For now, Harris is the most intriguing of the bunch — worth a pick once you hit the double-digit rounds of fantasy drafts.
Dynasty Impact
There might still be an opening to sell Johnston in dynasty based on his draft capital and decent sophomore season. He's still yet to show enough to make us believe that a big fantasy breakout is coming.
