ESPN’s Jordan Raanan writes that the Giants are “extremely high” on second-year TE Theo Johnson. The 24-year-old completed his rookie season with 29 catches, 331 yards, and 1 TD in 12 games.
What They're Saying
Here’s Raanan’s full take (via ESPN):
“The top of the [TE] depth chart looks the same [compared to 2024]. [Thomas] Fidone was a seventh-round selection this year. It's still considered a bottom-half-of-the-league unit for the Giants unless Johnson blossoms in his second season. The team is extremely high on his prospects.”
SNY’s Connor Hughes echoed a similar thought from OTAs.
“Theo Johnson looks bigger. The tight ends ran through individual drills in front of the media and the second-year tight end stood out. The Giants have told everyone how high they are on him. Johnson developing into a weapon would be huge for the offense. He didn’t make much noise in team drills on Wednesday.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Johnson’s involvement picked up later in the 2024 season.
He saw at least a 17% target share in each game from Week 7 to Week 13. He peaked as the PPR TE7 in Week 9 vs. Washington.
Unfortunately, Johnson’s rookie year ended with a Lisfranc (foot) injury that required December surgery. Appearing in OTAs is certainly good news for his health going forward.
Johnson barely cracks the top 30 of our PPR TE rankings. But there’s room for him to enter spot-start territory if he takes a Year 2 jump.
