Troy Franklin Making Progress in Year 2

Broncos WR Troy Franklin has “stood out in a major way” in offseason practices, per beat writer Nick Kosmider. The second-year pro is coming off an underwhelming rookie season with 28 catches, 263 yards, and 2 TDs.

        What They're Saying

Kosmider writes that Franklin routinely created separation as a rookie, but he “struggled to finish plays” and was “hampered at times by indecisiveness in the open field.”

Per Pro Football Focus, Franklin caught only 1 of 6 contested targets.

Here’s more from Kosmider (via The Athletic).

“That was all markedly different this offseason. [HC Sean] Payton has talked routinely about wanting to put Franklin in positions where the offense can benefit from his ability to make gains after the catch, and the receiver was notably fluid in that regard during practices over the past month. The catch and dynamic next step often looked like one motion instead of a series of separate moves and decisions. It has all made Franklin look, well, faster.”

        Here’s Payton on Franklin’s development.

“There’s that (saying), ‘Repetition is the mother of learning.’ “You’re seeing him play faster with a much greater awareness within each play. He’s extremely explosive, and I think he’s, I would say, 5 pounds heavier. A little thicker. He’s had a good spring.”

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

It's certainly a nice development for Franklin, but he'll need to keep the momentum going through training camp.

Behind Courtland Sutton, Franklin will compete for targets alongside WRs Devaughn Vele, Marvin Mims Jr., and rookie Pat Bryant. Denver also upgraded at TE with the signing of Evan Engram.

Treat Franklin as a late-round flier in best ball leagues.
