49ers WR Jauan Jennings wants a new contract or a trade, a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter. Jennings is scheduled to make $7.5 million this season, the second of the two-year, $15.4 million deal he signed in May of 2024. Jennings responded to that deal by posting career highs across the board last year: 77 catches, 975 yards, and six TDs.
What They're Saying
More from Schefter: "Jennings has approached the 49ers about his request, but little progress has been made, a source told ESPN. If a new deal is not reached by the time training camp starts next week, Jennings plans to request a trade to a team willing to pay him."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Jennings is certainly deserving of a raise. On top of the career highs in raw production last year, he also ranked top-15 among 104 qualifying WRs in yards per route, Pro Football Focus receiving grade and ESPN receiver score.
We'll see how the 49ers handle the situation. They dragged out contract negotiations with WR Brandon Aiyuk throughout last summer, finally agreeing to an extension on August 29. He wound up playing just 60% of the offensive snaps in Week 1 before returning to his usual role in Week 2 (and then suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 7 that may or may not have been related to the missed practice time leading up to the season).
We'll keep you updated on Jennings' status with the 49ers. For now, we're not adjusting his spot in the WR rankings.
Other Winners & Losers
Aiyuk is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season after last October's knee injury. If Jennings is either holding out or no longer on San Francisco's roster, Ricky Pearsall would be left as the team's No. 1 WR. Behind him on the depth chart: Demarcus Robinson, Jacob Cowing, and Jordan Watkins.
RB Christian McCaffrey and TE George Kittle would also see even more action in the passing game.
