Browns RB Jerome Ford missed practices Wednesday and Thursday to open training camp because of an undisclosed injury. HC Kevin Stefanski says the injury "happened over the last couple of weeks," according to Cleveland.com. He also says Ford is "progressing well" and that he "would be OK." Ford's absence presents obvious opportunity for fourth-round rookie Dylan Sampson, with RB Quinshon Judkins also out following domestic-violence charges.
What They're Saying
Stefanski on Sampson: “I like a lot about a lot of things about Dylan. He picks things up very quickly. He doesn’t make the same mistake twice. He fits in well. He works really hard, got a great personality. He’s going to push himself out here, which I see him doing. We’ve got to find out what he’s capable of. We have to see what he can do in this offense and then if he earns that role, can we expand that role?”

Let's start with the Ford situation. It's at least a little weird that we don't know what injury has him out of practice, like when your kids don't tell you about something they messed up until after they've figured out how to fix it.
We'll certainly be watching to see just how soon Ford returns to the field. There's loads of opportunity available in a backfield that shed Nick Chubb and D'Onta Foreman over the offseason, then watched Judkins' outlook get unexpectedly murky.
Ford has played well when given opportunities through three seasons with the team, proving efficient as a runner and at least competent as a receiver (2.6 receptions per game over the past two years).
The longer Ford remains out, the more chance Sampson has to impress and command regular-season work.
Both Sampson and Ford present attractive value at current ADP.
