Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson has been busy in the passing game in training camp so far, according to Evan Lazar of the team's official site. Henderson has been the recipient of screens out of the backfield and been running downfield routes from the slot or out wide.
What They're Saying
Lazar: "OC Josh McDaniels is trying to find ways to get the speedy second-rounder mismatches in space. The former Buckeye is running routes from all over the formation, is being used in the screen game, and on outside runs."
Henderson: "I feel like I always had that ability, but I didn't get too many opportunities to really excel at that position [in college], you know, flexing outside. I'm just thankful that they're giving me the opportunity to showcase that, and I'm just trying to continue to work at it. Coach McDaniels loves to get the playmakers out into space. I feel like that's one of the strengths of my game, getting out into space into those one-on-one matchups."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
On top of being a strong pass catcher, Henderson is also widely considered the best pass-blocking RB in this year's rookie class. He's a good bet to handle most of New England's passing-down snaps right away, especially considering RB Rhamondre Stevenson has been an inefficient receiver for the last three seasons.
The bigger question is how big a role Henderson plays in the running game. He's explosive -- but only 202 pounds. Henderson didn't top 183 carries in any of his four college seasons, averaging 12.6 carries per game for his career.
We'll be keeping a close eye on the workload distribution in the Patriots' backfield over the next month.
