D.J. Moore logged a career-high 14 carries last season, and it looks like new HC Ben Johnson wants to continue that type of usage. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Moore has spent some time in the backfield in practice this week "as Johnson looks for as many ways as possible to utilize his agility and speed."
What They're Saying
Johnson: "He's a physical, run-after-catch, just-get-me-the-ball type of guy. There's a number of things that we're looking to do and explore how we get him the ball and get him in space."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
I'm less moved here by Moore's potential rushing output than by his new coach's words.
Last year's career high in carries produced 75 rushing yards for the season. That's 7.5 fantasy points in most formats. Moore hadn't exceeded 53 rushing yards in a season since his rookie year (172 yards on 13 rushes). And he has just one rushing TD among 57 carries for his seven-year career.
More touches are nice. But the actual fantasy output from Moore's ground work isn't likely to matter much.
So why am I even bothering to write about this? There's been some market caution around drafting Moore this year, thanks to the new coach and some new, early-round offensive pieces. And there shouldn't be.
Moore has garnered 118+ targets in six straight seasons. Only four players saw more targets over that span. Just six players generated more receiving yards. And his two years in Chicago so far have produced WR6 and WR14 finishes in total PPR points, despite poor coaching and lackluster QB play.
So when the new offensive wunderkind head coach says he's exploring "how we get him the ball and get him in space," I see no reason to doubt Moore's 2025 output.
Get him now in case the market wises up in August. And you can read more about why I'm targeting Moore in this report on the most underrated players.
