Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell referred to RBs Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason as "1A-1B" in a recent interview with KFAN. O'Connell also notably talked up Mason's ability in the passing game.
What They're Saying
O'Connell on his backfield: "Jordan Mason was a massive part of our offseason plan. Bringing Aaron Jones back was a massive part of our offseason plan. We feel like we’ve got one of the best combinations of 1A-1B RBs in the National Football League. Not only just the impact that they have individually, but when you collectively put Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason together, you’ve got power, you’ve got speed, you’ve got two guys that catch the ball out of the backfield, two guys that can protect in the play pass or dropback pass game.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
This has been a steady drumbeat for much of the offseason now. O'Connell used the "1A-1B" moniker back in April. And ESPN's Kevin Seifert wrote near the end of July that he expects a "relatively equal load share" between Jones and Mason.
It's particularly noteworthy that O'Connell talked up Mason's ability as a pass catcher and pass blocker. He's totaled just 14 catches across three NFL seasons but owns a 78% catch rate and 8.7 yards per catch on the limited opportunities. The Vikings seem to believe there's some untapped potential there.
We're still projecting Jones to control most of the passing-down snaps this season. But anything Mason can add in that department would help his week-to-week viability in fantasy lineups.
